Kalika Electropower is a hydropower company with the business history of 31 years. Its parent company, the Kalika Group was founded in 1976 and it has five operating companies in five business sectors: Hydropower, Construction, Software Outsourcing, International trading and FM Radio/Media. The Kalika Group is one of Nepal's largest and most respected business conglomerates.
Ministry of Water Resource has issued a license to the company to survey Bhote Koshi-5 Hydroelectric Project, the company has studied in detail, all the perspectives of the project including an extensive study and evaluation of environmental impact of the project and it has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) in February 2004.
Nepal has a huge potential of hydro power that comes to about 83,000 MW out of which 43,000 MW is economically viable. Until now, Nepal has not been able to exploit much of its potentiality and the people in Nepal still face severe power shortages. In order to harness and develop hydropower, private sectors were involved to carry out small and medium sized hydro power projects. Similarly the government of Nepal is encouraging private foreign investment in this sector. The Kalika ElectroPower has undertaken the Bhote Koshi-5 Hydroelectric Project (46MW) for immediate development to meet the load demand of the country.
